A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD AMENDING CITY COUNCIL RESOLUTION NO. 3153 ADOPTING SALARY PLAN FOR THE CITY FOR 1973-74. The City council of the City of Carlsbad does hereby resolve s follows: WHEREAS, the City of Carlsbad did on June 19, 1973, adopt esolution No. 3153 adopting a salary plan for the City for the 973-74 fiscal year; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that Resolution No. 3153 dated une 19, 1973, is amended by the addition of the job classification ECRETARY TO THE CITY ATTORNEY, Salary Range 23, as set forth on xhibit "A" attached and incorporated herein. PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED at a meeting of the City Council f the City of Carlsbad, California, held October 16, 1973, by he following vote, to wit: AYES: Councilmen Dunne, McComas, Lewis, Chase and Frazee. NOES: None. ABSENT: None. ,TTEST : :SEAL) i3 e :E in i t ion 0 NO. 3294, Exhibit "A" msoLuT4i SECRETARY TO ThE CITY ATTOLP;ZY This is an advanced level secretarial class in the clerical series performing difficult, responsible ani confidential work under the general supervision of the city attorney. This classification involves thorough knowledqe of legal terms and procedures necessary to gerform expert steno- yraphic work in the legal field. Independent performance of duties and operation of the clezical functions of the attorney's office are required. Examp 1 e s 1. Acts as confidential secreta-ry to the city attorney. of Ijuties 2. Independently prepares and tyges initial, and after review, final drafts of condemnation proceedings, complaints, deeds, leases, agreements, contractsp proclanations, peti- tions, resolutions, ordinances and other legal proceedings. 3, or from a dictating machine; performs difficult typing and clerical work of a varied natkre. Accurately transcribes dictation notes whether by self 4. Makes appointments and arranges calendar for the city attorney. 5. Interviews visitors, gives out information and receives complaints. 6. Maintains a file of correspondence, records, legal documents and library. 7. Monitors the department budget. 8. Performs related work as required. - Emnloyment Thorough knowledge of mod-ern office practices and puocdures, Standards Considerable knowledge of the nontechnical aspects of the practice of law. Considerable knowledge of business letter writing and ability to compose letters. business English and simple legal terminology, -Ability to perform difficult clerical work, including maintenance of legal files. Ability to deal tactfully with the public under difficult circumstances. Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to work independently. Ability to use good Three years of progressively responsible secretarial work affording a knowledge of legal practices and graduation from high school supplemented by collecje level coxxercial and business courses; or any equivalent cornbination of experience and training.
