HomeMy WebLinkAbout1978-03-21; City Council; Resolution 53571 2 3 4 5 6 7 E s IC 11 12 12 14 1: 1t 15 1E 1C 2( 21 2: 22 24 2: 2t 2'; 2f RESOLUTION NO. 5357 A RESi3LUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OP CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING COMPENSATION INCENTIVES FOR PARA- MEDICS. -- WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Carlsbad has iuthorized and directed the implementation of the Paramedic iervice; and WHEREAS, it was the intent of the City Council upon iuthorizing and directing implementation of such service to xovide incentive compensation to persons serving as paramedics: ind WHEREAS, to date such incentive has not been initiated; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the :ity of Carlsbad as follows: 1. That the above recitations are true and correct. 2. That the City Council authorizes and directs the City danager to implement a Compensation Incentive Program for ?aramedics, as described and shown on the Attachment 'A' hereto. PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Zity Council of the City of Carlsbad, held on the 21st day 2f M a r c h , 1978, by the following vote, to wit: Councilwoman Casler AYES :: Councilmen Packard, Skotnicki, Anear and NOES :: None ABSENT : None ATTEST: /7 RONALD C. PACKARD, Mayor Resolution No.5357 ATTACHMENT "A" -- PARAMEDIC INCENTIVE PROGRAM PURPOSE: To establish a program for incentive compensation for members of the Carlsbad Fire Department designated as PARAMEDIC. 1. Those members of the Carlsbad Fire Department who have com- pleted training and who are designated PARAVEDIC shall receive a compensation incentive. 2. Yembers of thj? City of Carlsbad Fire Department who complete a course of training prescribed by San Diego County and are certified as a Paramedic shall receive compensation incentive as follows: a. Members who completed a course of training prescribed by San Diego County and are certi'fied as paramedics shall receive compensation incentive in the amount of 5% com- puted on the base pay exclusive of all other incentives or allowances as contained in the prevailing salary schedule determined by the City Council, b. Those members of the Carlsbad Fire Department certified PARAMEDIC shall recel've 5% compensation incentive upon successful completion of one full year of service as a PARAMEDIC; such compensation to be in addition to the incentive granted upon initial certification. 3. Members who completed training and were certified during September, 1977 shall receive compensation incentive in the amount of 10% computed on the base pay exclusive of other incentives or' allowances as contained in the prevailing salary schedlile commencing April 1, 1978. No additional incentive to be given at the end of their first year of service. 4. Members who c:ompleted training and were certified during December, 1977 shall receive compensation incentive in the amount of 74% computed on the base pay exclusive of other incentives or allowances as contained in the salary schedule from the per;,od of April 1, 1978 through completion of their first year of service. Thereafter this initial incentive shall be reduced to 5%. 5. Paramedic Incentive Compensation shall continue for only those members of the Carlsbad Fire Department who maintain PARAMEDIC certification and continue to serve as PARAMEDIC. Paramedic Incentive Compensation shall cease when a member leaves the paramedic service and returns to regular assigned duties in thi. Carlsbad Fire Department. 6. Provisions of the resolution shall be incorporated into the Personnel Rules and Regulations of the City at the time of the next revision.
