RESOLUTION NO. 7196
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, URGING THE
ESTABLISHMENT OF A SEPARATE CITY
LIBRARIANS' DEPARTMENT WITHIN THE LEAGUE
OF CALIFORNIA CITIES.
WHEREAS, the League of California Cities was established in 1898 to foster
and facilitate quality municipal government within the State of California; and
WHEREAS, said League has immutably evolved into an acclaimed forum for
excellence in government representing most professional municipal administrators;
and
WHEREAS, for more than a century public librarians have effectively served
nillions of municipal residents of said state by providing the materials,
information and professional guidance necessary for their educational, infor-
mational, and spiritual well-being; and
WHEREAS, said librarians have not been officially represented within the
League's Divisions or Departments to date; and
WHEREAS, such exclusion has resulted in a multitude of irretrievable
opportunities for vital and necessary commun cation between library adminis-
trators and their counterparts within the ex sting League;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the C ty Council of the City of Carlsbad,
California as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That the establishment of a separate functional Department of City
Librarians within the League of California Cities is deemed to be of
significantly enduring value and should be vigorously pursued by the League's
current Di rectors.

PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Carlsbad City
Council, held on the 19th day of mril , 1983, by the
following vote to wit:
AYES: Council Menkers Casler, Lewis, Kulchin, Chick and Presoott
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
