WHEREAS, the City Council has established a Risk Management Program that includes a program of Loss Prevention; and WHEREAS, the City Council seeks to provide recognition to City employees who have established safe working habits; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad as follows: 1. That the above recitations are true and correct. 2. That the City Council authorizes and directs the City Manager to implement the City of Carlsbad Safety Awards Programs, attached hereto as Exhibit "A" and made" a part thereof. RAUTE (Seal) 5 December, 1983 EXHIBIT "A" TO : LOSS PREVENTION COMMITTEE FROM: Safety Awards Sub-committee SAFETY AWARDS PROGRAM Recommendation It is recommended that a Safety Awards Program be initiated. Fiscal Impact The estimated cost of this suggested program will be between $3,000-$4,000 for the initial year. Discussion The Safety Awards Sub-committee proposes a Safety Awards Program to acknowledge those employees who exhibit safe work practices. safety awareness and motivate safe work habits. All City employees, except for those in Management, are eligible for safety awards. proposed : The award program should increase The following categories are 1. Safe Employee Award A. Each employee earning this will be eligible for a $100 Cash Award. Another annual award will be the Driver Safety Award. This award will be made eligible to those employees who operate City vehicles (includes tractors, mowers, etc.) as a part of their daily schedule. The suggested awards are as follows: 1 yr. with no accidents or vehicle damage - Hat, T-shirt, Personalized Coffee 3 yr. with no accidents or vehicle damage - Dinner for two at local restaurant 5 yr. with no accidents or vehicle damage - $100 Cash Award 10 yr. with no accidents or vehicle damage - $200 Cash Award Mug (not to exceed $40) The Safety Chairman Award will be given to the individual who provides the best overall safety program. This includes, safety meetings, good safety inspections, and innovative safety programs. those individuals who lead, plan, and conduct safety programs. The award will be a dinner for two which will be awarded annually (not to exceed $40). To ensure equality in this award, the departments will be judged according to the number of employees in their respective departments. A cash award of $50 toward the department’s Christmas luncheon will be awarded to the selected departments. In addition, the category will include the Safe Department Head Award. This award will be selected by the Loss Prevention Committee on the basis of his/her overall departmental safety program and department safety record. This award will be a dinner for two (not to exceed $40). It is the Un-Safest Department Award, and will be a perpetual award. It will be a plaque mounted on an old crutch. It is recommended that the Safety Awards Program go into effect as soon as possible . The safety awrards should be reviewed and updated on an annual basis.
