HomeMy WebLinkAbout1984-07-10; City Council; Resolution 76651 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 RESOLUTION NO. 7665 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, CALLING AND GIVING NOTICE OF THE HOLDING OF A GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION TO BE HELD IN SAID CITY ON TUESDAY NOVEMBER 6, 1984 FOR THE ELEClION OF CERTAIN OFFICERS OF SAID CITY AS REQUIRED BY THE PROVISIONS OF THE LAWS OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA RELATING TO GENERAL LAW CITIES. WHEREAS, under the provisions of the laws relating to General Law Cities in the State of California, a General Municipal Election shall be held on November 6, 1984, for the election of municipal officers; and WHEREAS, the City Council of Carlsbad has an elected Mayor not being voted upon in this election; and WHEREAS, the City Council has determined to invoke the provisions of Section 34906 of the Government Code which pertains to evenly staggered terms for Council Members when the Mayor is an elected position. NOW THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, DOES HEREBY RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE AND ORDER AS FOLLOWS: SECTION I. That pursuant to the requirements of the laws of the State of California relating to General Law Cities within said State, there shall be, and there is hereby called and ordered, held in the City of Carlsbad, California, on Tuesday, November 6, 1984, a General Municipal Election of the qualified electors of said City for the purpose of electing three members of the City Council of the City. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 e 9 IC 11 12 12 14 1: 1E 17 1€ 15 2( 21 2: 21 2f 2: 2( 2'; 2t SECTION 2. In accordance with Section 34906 of the Government Code which pertains to evenly staggered terms when the Mayor is an elected position, the three candidates who receive the highest number of votes will serve as elected members of the City Council. Of the three elected members, the two who receive the highest number of votes will serve full terms of four (4) years and the one of the three members elected who receives the least number of votes will serve a short term of two (2) years. SECTION 3. That the polls for the election shall be open at seven o'clock a.m. of the day of the election and shall remain open continuously from that time until eight o'clock p.m. of the same day when the polls shall be closed, except as provided in Section 14301 of the Election Code of the State of California. SECTION 4. That notice of the time and place of holding said election is hereby given and the City Clerk is hereby authorized, instructed and directed to give such further or additional notice of said election, in time, form and manner as required by law. SECTION 5.
