HomeMy WebLinkAbout1986-03-12; City Council; Resolution 84311 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 RESOLUTION NO. 8431 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR THE LOCATION OF A PROPOSED CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY CAMPUS IN THE CITY OF CARLSBAD. WHEREAS the State Legislature has commissioned a study of the need for a campus of the State University system in North County, and WHEREAS the Carlsbad City Council on September 3, 1985, appoint- ed an Ad Hoc Committee to explore the advantages and disadvantages of locating a North County Campus of San Diego State University in Carlsbad, and WHEREAS the Ad Hoc Committee in its report dated December 9, 1985, recommended unanimously that Carlsbad actively pursue the campus, and WHEREAS the City Council voted unanimously on December 17, 1985, to actively pursue locating a campus for San Diego State University in Carlsbad, and WHEREAS numerous local organizations, including the proposed major Scripps Hospital/medical facility and the proposed Batiquitos graduate level Educational Institutes (which would be close to the proposed campus) as well as the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce, industrial, and residential interests in Carlsbad, have expressed support for locating the campus in the city of Carlsbad, and WHEREAS an Ad Hoc Committee on Off-Campus Facilities of the California State University Board of Trustees plans to conduct a public hearing on March 19, 1986, at the Off Campus Center of the San Diego State University, to permit interested owners or propon- ents of sites for the permanent location of a North County campus 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 'LO 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 to present detailed information on their sites, and WHEREAS consultants to the State University Board of Trustees are expected to present their site recommendations at the May, 1986, meeting of the Board, NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA as follows: 1. That the City of Carlsbad considers the location of the north campus of the San Diego State University in the city of Carlsbad a highly desirable objective. 2. That the Council believes that the city of Carlsbad, a city growing rapidly under a well recognized plan, offers many cultural and environmental features which would enhance the attractiveness of the campus to faculty and students alike, 3, That the Council further believes that location of the campus in Carlsbad would be a significant and unique complement to the many existing amenities knjoyed by residents of Carlsbad. 4, That the Council would consider the University a "prime resident" and would look forward to the fullest cooperation with the University and with other entities involved in providing needed services and facilities, and in encouraging the fullest possible interaction between the University and residents in cultural, educational, and commercial endeavors.
