RESOLUTION NO. 9012
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING IN CONCEPT A
JOINT CITY OF CARLSBAD AND CARLSBAD UNIFIED SCHOOL
DISTRICT PROJECT TO CONSTRUCT A SENIOR CITIZENS
CENTER AND SCHOOL DISTRICT OFFICE FACILITY
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Carlsbad desires
to explore the potential for a joint City of Carlsbad and
Carlsbad Unified School District project to construct a Senior
Citizens Center and School District office facility; and
WHEREAS, representatives of the City of Carlsbad and the
Carlsbad Unified School District have, in a spirit of
cooperation and mutual benefit, met and discussed this project
in detail; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Carlsbad desires
to provide appropriate public facilities for all citizens of
the City of Carlsbad; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Carlsbad and the
Carlsbad Unified School District have commissioned a joint
appraisal of certain School District owned property identified
for this project; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Carlsbad has
appropriated funds in the 1986-87 fiscal budget to design and
construct a Senior Citizens Center in the form of Redevelopment
funds produced from bond financing; and
WHEREAS, said bond financing does not as yet exist for
this project requiring the need for interim City funds to
initiate the project;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the

City of Carlsbad, California, as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and
2. That the City Council of the City of Carlsbad

approves
in concept a joint City of Carlsbad and Carlsbad Unified School
District project to construct a Senior Citizens Center and
School District administrative office facility.
3. That the City Council of the City of Carlsbad accepts
the joint appraisal report attached hereto and incorporated by
reference herein of property owned by the Carlsbad Unified
School District addressed as 801 Pine Avenue, Carlsbad,
California, 92008.
4. That the City Council of the City of Carlsbad directs
City staff to secure professional architectural proposals to
affect this project.
5. That the City Council of the City of Carlsbad directs
City staff to continue negotiations with the Carlsbad Unified
School District to finalize an agreement mutually beneficial to
both the City and the School District to affect this project.
6. That the City Council of the City of Carlsbad approves
and authorizes a temporary loan in the amount of $300,000 from
the unappropriated balance of the General Capital Construction
Fund, account No. 300-941, to the project account to fund the
estimated cost of preliminary project expenses to initiate this
project.
7. That the City Council of the City of Carlsbad supports
cooperative and efficient use of public facilities with other

governmental, special district, and private entities for the
general good of the citizens of the City of Carlsbad.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the
Carlsbad City Council held on the 7th day of April 9
1987 by the following vote, to wit:
AYES: Council Members Lewis, Pettine, Mamaux and Larson
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
