City procedures for the conduct of inspections, reporting of deficiencies notice of corrections to be made. Abilitv to: Read and understand engineering plans, specifications, bid documents contracts. Properly and thoroughly inspect workmanship and materials. Prepare and verify estimates of construction cost. Supervise, plan and participate in highly responsible construction coordinat inspection work. Determine the status of construction work and verify adherence to contract1 ob1 igations. Understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in ' course of work. Effectively supervise, train and evaluate assigned staff. Experience and Education Any combination equivalent to the experience and education that could likt provide the required know1 edge and abil i ties is qual ifying. A typical way obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Experience: Five years experience leading to a broad knowledge of skil; public works construction and maintenance work, including two years supervisory and construction management experience. Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade supplemented specialized training in public works engineering and skilled constructi abilities. -* e 0 .t Attachment A Resol uti on No. 88-3r PRINCIPAL CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR DEFINITION Under general direction of the City Engineer to assist in planning, supervisir coordinating and directing the activities of a comprehensive public wot inspection program; and to do related work as assigned. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS Incumbent will assume lead responsibility for managing the City’s public wor inspection program. This will include construction project management a coordinating, assigning and supervising the work of lower level constructi inspectors. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Supervise, train and evaluate work of construction inspectors. Supervise, plan and participate in conducting special and routine inspectio of private and public construction projects, inspecting materials and workmansh to assure compliance with approved plans and specifications; inspect conditio prior to the start of construction, during construction and upon completion. Assist contractors and engineers in the review and interpretation of plans a. specifications for public facility construction projects. Perform a wide variety of general record keeping and statistical repol preparation work related to public facility construction projects. Prepare construction progress status reports as assigned. Check rough and finish grading, installation of sewer, water and storm dra lines, streets, curbs, gutters and other facilities. Make corrections and issue motions requiring modifications to work in progres: Maintain log books and other records of inspection work. QUALIFICATIONS Know1 edge of: Fundamentals of civil engineering. Design and construction bid documents, plans, specifications and contracts. Procedures for estimating construction cost.
