HomeMy WebLinkAbout1992-03-03; City Council; Resolution 92-711 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 0 0 RESOLUTION NO. 9 2 - 7 1 SUPPORTING FUNDS FOR SHORELINE EROSION CONTROL IN STATE BOND ACT LEGISLATION WHEREAS, the 80-mile long San Diego region shoreline contains many beacheh provide a natural and economic resource of local, regional and statewide significance; i WHEREAS, the San Diego region shoreline has experienced extensive beach erosi property damage whenever large storms have struck the coast. In 1982-83 and 19t damage sustained by the region's coastline totalled many millions of dollars; and WHEREAS, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Coast of California Study, a s scientific evaluation of the region's shoreline erosion problems, identified critical erosion most of the region's coast; and WHEREAS, the San Diego Association of Governments' Draft Shoreline Preser Strategy has determined that erosion can be expected to continually worsen in the futurc has identified a strategy for developing coordinated erosion control actions to address problems; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsba it strongly encourages the State Legislature to include $24,500,000.00 in State Bon Legislation (AB 72, Cortese and SB 710, Mello) for "grants which support regional appro, to shoreline erosion control, or for shoreline erosion projects on publicly owned land." 11111111 llllllll 11111111 11111111 11111111 11111111 Ii e * PAGE 2 OF RESOLUTION NUMBER 92-71 1 2 3 4 PASSED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Cs held on the 3rd day of March , 1992, by the following vote, to wit: 5 ll AYES: Council Members Lewis, Kulchin, Larson, Stanton and Nygaard 6 NOES: None 7 ABSENT: None 8 9 or 10 ATTEST: 11 R.
