RESOLUTION NO. 93-330
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING THE PURCHASE
OF FIREFIGHTER'S PROTECTIVE CLOTHING
WHEREAS, it is advantageous to the City to join other agencies in the pt

of firefighter's wear; and

WHEREAS, bid proposals were submitted by eight vendors and judged
known criteria.
10 r/ NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the

SUBJECT: Notlflcatlon of bld sample exceptlons from bld No. 5.
The San Diego County Fire Equipment Committee found the following exceptior
the required specifications in it's evaluation of samples for protective clothing bid

ITEM: STRUCTURAL FIRE FIGHTING PROTECTIVE CLOTHING:
BIDDER: Quest Enterprises, INC.
EXCEPTIONS:
COAT:
Collar: Bidder utilizes a layer of aramid quilt vs. the (2) two layers of neol
coated cotton/polyester moisture barrier material required in the specifications.
Collarlliner attachment: Bidder does not provide a collar/liner facing for attachir
liner trt the coat as required in the specifications.
Sleeve design and construction: Bidder offers an inset, raglan design, single
sleeve construction vs. set in, contoured, (2) two panel sleeve constructior
linnerhvristlet configuration as required in the specifications.
Coat front closurelstorm flap: Bidder offers a layer of arimid quilt inside thc
front storm flap vs. a layer of neoprene coated cotton/polyester moisture mate
required in the specifications.

ITEM: WILDLAND FIRE FIGHTING GLOVE:
BIDDER: Halprin Supply Co.
EXCEPTIONS:
Bidder offers a green/gray colored leather, interior lined, 160 96 kevlar wristlei
vs. a brown (only color allowed for wildland gloves), unlined, Nomex SF
wristlet glove as required in the specifications.
ITEM: STRUCTURAL FIRE FIGHTING GLOVES (OSHA):
BIDDER: All Star Fire Equip. Co.
EXCEPTIONS:
Bidder offers a glove that utilizes a moisture barrier attached to the therma
vs. non-moisture barrier thermal lined glove as required in the specifications.
ITEM: STRUCTURAL FIRE FIGHTING GLOVES (OSHA):
BIDDER: Halprin Supply Co.
EXCEPTIONS:
Bidder offers a brown colored leather, Kevlar wristlet glove vs. a glove that any color leather but brown (brown coior only aliowed in wildland
identification safety issue}, with a Nomex spandex wristlet as required
specifications.
ITEM: STRUCTURAL FIRE FIGHTING GLOVES (OSHA):

Alternate item #1: Shelby Glove Co., FF. Glove:
Bidder offers a Brown colored leather glove vs. a glove that utilizes a1
leather but brown (brown color only allowed in wildland glove, identificatio
issue).

Bidder offers a glove that is constructed with twists in the fingers,. this glove de:
defect coupled with it's bulkiness was found to be uncomfortable and limited in
dexterity, presenting a detrimental safety issue.
