HomeMy WebLinkAbout1994-05-10; City Council; Resolution 94-128L 1 2 3 4 5 e 0 EXHIBIT No. 2 RESOLUTION NO. 9 4 - 12 8 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA TO ENDORSE AND SUPPORT THE JUNE, 1994 MIRAMAR ADVISORY BALLOT MEASURE AND TO DESIGNATE MIRAMAR AS THE PREFERRED SITE FOR THE SAN DIEGO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT 6 7 WHEREAS, the City of San Diego, the County of San Diego, and other governmental 8 lo airport service for the region, and, as a result of the search, the County Board of 9 agencies in the San Diego Region have been searching for new ways of providing better Supervisors have placed an advisory measure on the June 1994 ballot to determine the 'I. feasibility of Miramar as the preferred site for the San Diego International Airport; and, 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 WHEREAS, the City of San Diego Progress Guide and General Plan for airports is to support continued designation of Lindbergh Field as an airport and to pursue aggressively the use of NAS Miramar as the region's air carrier airport if all or a major portion of NAS Miramar is no longer required for national defense; and WHEREAS, the significant noise and safety deficiencies at Lindbergh Field including that it does not meet FAA minimum standards for lower minimum visibility approaches, and that pilots are not able to use precision approach instruments when landing on the primary 20 25 to sustain in the 21st century a vibrant economy offering attractive employment, a sound 24 WHEREAS, in today's global market, the region will require a full-service airport if it is 23 and air, is approaching gridlock at Lindbergh Field; and, 22 WHEREAS, the inevitable and increasing problem of traffic congestion, both ground 21 approach runway; and, environment, and an enviable quality of life; and 26 27 ///// WHEREAS, the San Diego International Airport should be located in the geographic 28 ///// I1 11 I/ 0 0 -7 < 1 // center of the travelling public of San Diego County, in keeping with the California 2 3 4 WHEREAS, the San Diego International Airport should be located in the geographic 5 center of the air freight market to enhance economic visibility and diminish road congestion 6 associated by truck traffic; 7 NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad as 8 follows: Transportation Plan, and to provide the best ground access; and, 9 That the City of Carlsbad supports and endorses the June, 1994 Miramar Advisory lo Ballot Measure stating: 11 12 13 "The people of San Diego do hereby reaffirm their strong support for the continued presence of the U.S. Military in the San Diego region. However, if the US. Government decides to make NAS Miramar available for civilian airport use, then, should all government officials cooperate to make every effort to relocate Charles A.
