HomeMy WebLinkAbout1996-03-19; City Council; Resolution 96-921 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 g 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 0 0 RESOLUTION NO. 96-92 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR, ON BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL, TO REGISTER THE LEO CARRILLO RANCH AS A STATE HISTORIC LANDMARK WITH THE STATE HISTORIC RESOURCES COMMISSION AND APPROVE PLACEMENT OF A REGISTERED HISTORICAL LANDMARK PLAQUE WITHIN THE PARK SITE. WHEREAS, the Squibob Chapter of E. Clampus Vitus, a historic preservation organization is requesting to nominate the Leo Carrillo Ranch for consideration by the State Historic Resources Commission to receive California registered Historic Landmark status, and WHEREAS, Architect Milford Wayne Donaldson, FAIA, Inc. has prepared application for nomination for review by the State Office of Historic Preservation his expense, and WHEREAS, in order to complete the application, the City Council must grant permission to register the Leo Carrillo Ranch as a California registered Historic Landmark, and WHEREAS, the City is also requested to approve the placement of a plaque acknowledging the historic significance of the site, and WHEREAS, the Historic Preservation organization, E. Clampus Vitus, Squibob Chapter, has offered to pay for the manufacture and installation of the plaque, and WHEREAS, the request for California State Historic Landmark status for tt Carrillo Ranch has been corlceptually approved by the Carlsbad Historic Preservation Commission, Parks and Recreation Commission, and has also bee endorsed by the Friends of Carrillo Ranch organization, and 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 l4 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 0 e WHEREAS, the Carlsbad City Council agrees that a designation of California State Historic Landmark is a status becoming the Leo Carrillo Ranch, and WHEREAS, even though the site may receive State Historic Landmark status, public visitation to the future community park site will remain restricted pending development of the park to a standard acceptable for public visitation and recreation; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California, the following: 1. 2. That the above recitations are true and correct. That the City of Carlsbad does hereby grant permission for the La Carrillo Ranch to be registered as a California State Historical Landmark. 3. That permission is granted for placement of a plaque acknowledgir the site as a registered landmark at an appropriate location only within the boundaries of the Leo Carrillo Ranch Community Park. PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California, held on the 1996, by the following vote to wit: 19th day o MARCH AYES: Council Members Lewis , Nygaard, Kulchin, Finnila, Hall NOES: None ABSENT: None ATTEST:
