RESOLUTION NO. 98-293
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING THE ARTIST- DESIGNED GATES FOR THE SCULPTURE GARDEN
WHEREAS, on May 12, 1998, the City Council authorized the commission of art
designed gates for the Sculpture Garden; and
WHEREAS, the Arts Office invited 14 area artists to submit a design for the gates for
Sculpture Garden and only 3 proposals were received, one from San Diego artist Paul Hobs
and
WHEREAS, the Arts Commission requested the use of one of the gates designed
Carrillo Ranch temporarily until needed at the Ranch instead of designing and installing a g;
specifically for the Sculpture Garden; and
l1 II WHEREAS, the Arts Commission approved hiring Paul Hobson who worked with the (

variation of the Caballeros Gates (bucking bronco gates) designed for Carrillo Ranch; and 15
WHEREAS, the Arts Commission asked Mr. Hobson to submit a new design of gates o 14
included the design concept of two wrought iron'gates; and 13
and landscape architects on the arts and culture component of the Carrillo Ranch Master Plan wt-
WHEREAS, Mr. Hobson redesigned the Caballeros Gates and created a model which \n ..

placed on display in the Library for public comment; and
WHEREAS, twenty comments from the public were received, most of which were frc

1 WHEREAS, on August 6,1998, the Arts Commission unanimously approved the desigr
2 Mr. Hobson’s Caballeros Gates and recommended approval by the City Council.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad,

1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That the City Council approves the design of the Caballeros Gates for use at thl
Sculpture Garden temporarily to be moved later to Carrillo Ranch Park.
7 PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED; at a regular meeting of the City Council of the
