2 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING DONATIONS
3 FROM THE FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY &
4 APPROPRIATING FUNDS
5 WHEREAS, the Carlsbad City Library is once again sponsoring a community-
6 wide reading program, CARLSBAD READS TOGETHER; and
7 WHEREAS, the Friends of the Carlsbad Library have donated funds in the
8 amount of $3,300 to cover the estimated costs for books, films, and promotional
9
materials and pledged to cover additional costs directly for up to $6,500.00; and
10 WHEREAS, in addition, the Friends have donated $1,000 in memory of long-time
11
Friends' member Mary Melidio and $2,000 for the purchase of Library magnets; and
12
WHEREAS, the City of Carlsbad wished to accept these many gifts; and
WHEREAS, there remains an accumulation of similar donations to the Library of
15 lesser amounts which were received this fiscal year but have not been appropriated;
16 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
17 Carlsbad, California, as follows:

1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
19 2. That the City Council accepts the donations from the Friends of the Library
20
and their pledge of direct support for the CARLSBAD READS TOGETHER
21
program.
23 3. That the City Council directs the Finance Director to appropriate the
24 current $6,300 Friends' donation together with the aforementioned balance of
25 $ 3,510,93 to the Library's budget for expenditure within the fiscal year.

PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a Regular Meeting of the City Council
of the City of Carlsbad on the 23rd day of January, 2007, by the following vote:
AYES: Council Members Lewis, Hall, Packard, Sigafoose.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: Council Member Kulchin.
