A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
3 CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, ADOPTING THE PLANS AND
SPECIFICATIONS AND AUTHORIZING ADVERTISEMENT FOR
4 BIDS FOR PURCHASE AND INSTALLATION OF 18 TRAFFIC
SIGNAL BATTERY BACKUP SYSTEMS. PROJECT PWGS316.

6 WHEREAS, the City staff has identified the need to provide backup power for traffic
7 signal systems; and
3 WHEREAS, City staff has researched various traffic signal backup systems and
g determined desired specifications for battery backup systems for traffic signal operation; and
WHEREAS, City staff has developed a schedule that would provide for the purchase and
installation of backup units at each signalized intersection over a six-year period; and11
WHEREAS, City staff is now ready to move ahead with the purchase and installation of

18 additional backup units at an estimated cost of $120,000; and
13 WHEREAS, funds in the amount of $120,000 are available for this project in the General
14 Fund Traffic Signal Maintenance Capital Outlay budget.
15 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad,
16 California, as follows:
17 1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
18 2. That the plans, specifications and cost estimates submitted by Engineering and
19 Street Maintenance for the purchase and installation of 18 traffic signal battery backup systems
20 are hereby adopted.
21 3. That the funds in the amount of $120,000 are hereby appropriated from the
22 General Fund Traffic Signal Maintenance Capital Outlay budget for the purchase and
23 installation of 18 traffic signal battery backup systems.
24 4. The City Clerk of the City of Carlsbad is hereby authorized and directed to
25 publish, in accordance with State law, a Notice Inviting Bids for the purchase and installation of
26 is traffic signal battery backup systems, Project No. PWGS316.
