2 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING THE DEPT. OF
3 JUSTICE BYRNE REGIONAL GRANT AND
. APPROPRIATING FUNDS TO CONDUCT ANTI-GANG
SUPPRESSION OPERATIONS IN NORTH COUNTY.

WHEREAS, the County of San Diego received funds from the US Department of
7
Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance, under the FY 20078
„ Edward Byrne Memorial Discretionary Grants Program; and
10 WHEREAS, the funding will support the North County Gang Enforcement
11 Collaborative, an agreement between the County of San Diego and the cities of
12 Carlsbad, Escondido, and Oceanside, the California Highway Patrol and the San Diego
13 Association of Governments; and
14 WHEREAS, the goal of this grant is to support an intelligence-led, data-driven,
15 multi-agency, multi-jurisdictional partnership to respond to violent crime and gangs.

WHEREAS, it is the desire of Carlsbad Police Department to participate in this
17
program to help reduce violent and gang-related crime in the region;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
20 Carlsbad, California, as follows:
21 1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
22 2. That the Police Chief is authorized to execute all appropriate agreements with

the County of San Diego for receipt of the subject grant funds, as well as any
24 required reports and/or final statements.

3. That the Finance Director is authorized to appropriate $70,722 for conducting
26
at least 24 suppression operations and 2 trainings.

PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a Regular Meeting of the City Council
of the City of Carlsbad on the 6th day of May, 2008, by the following vote to wit:
AYES: Council Members Lewis, Kulchin, Hall, Packard and Nygaard.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
