2 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING THE RENAMING OF
3 BASEBALL FIELD #1 AT POINSETTIA PARK TO THORP FIELD

WHEREAS, Council Policy No. 48, entitled 'Naming Rights of Parks, and
Municipal Facilities', establishes the criteria and procedures for the naming rights of6
7 parks, municipal facilities, and amenities within parks or municipal facilities in
8 consideration of financial contributions or in recognition of any significant contributions
9 to the City of Carlsbad that it wishes to honor; and
10 WHEREAS, Council Policy No. 48 provides a procedure for applicants to submit
11 written proposals for naming rights of parks, municipal facilities, and amenities within
parks or municipal facilities; and
13 WHEREAS, Brad and Beth Thorp have consented to the renaming request and
14
followed that procedure in submitting a written proposal to rename Baseball Field #1 at
15
Poinsettia Park to Thorp Field; and16
WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Commission has reviewed the proposal
jg for consistency with the criteria identified in the Council Policy No. 48 and has
19 unanimously voted to recommend to the City Council's that it rename this baseball field;
20 and
21 WHEREAS, the City Council has reviewed the proposal and found it to be
22 consistent with Council Policy No. 48.
23 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
24
Carlsbad, California, as follows:

1. That the above recitations are true and correct.26
2. That Baseball Field #1 at Poinsettia Park is renamed to Thorp Field.

PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a Regular Meeting of the City Council
of the City of Carlsbad on the 21st day of July, 2009, by the following vote to wit:
AYES: Council Members Lewis, Kulchin, Hall, Packard and Blackburn.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
