2 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA. APPROVING PUBLIC
^ ARTWORK CONCEPT DESIGN FOR FIRE STATION #3

^ WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California, has shown its

commitment to fostenng art and culture in the community by incorporating public art
7
into its eligible civic projects; and
WHEREAS, the City Council ofthe City of Cartsbad, California, identified Fire
10 Station #3, as one of the city's most recent civic projects identified to have a public art
11 component included as part of its construction; and
12 WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Cartsbad, California, approved an
1^ allocation of $48,000, which is 1 % of the total construction cost for public art as
specified by Carlsbad Municipal Code Chapter 2.18; and
WHEREAS, the Cultural Arts Office utilized the public arts process, conducted an
open competition and artist Betsy Schuiz was selected by the Fire Station #3 public art
committee; and
WHEREAS, on October 3, 2013 the Arts Commission approved the Schuiz

20 artwork proposal and recommended the design for City Council approval.
21 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
22 Cartsbad, California, as follows:

1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That the proposed public artwork concept design at Fire Station #3 is
hereby approved.

PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a Regular Meeting ofthe City Council ofthe City
of Carlsbad on the 19^^ day of November, 2013, by the following vote to wit:
