HomeMy WebLinkAbout2014-02-11; City Council; Resolution 2014-026RESOLUTION NO. 2014-026 2 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING THE NAMING OF THE COMMUNITY GARDEN AT CALAVERA HILLS COMMUNITY PARK THE CALAVERA 4 SCHOOLHOUSE COMMUNITY GARDEN 3 23 24 25 26 27 28 WHEREAS, City of Carlsbad Council Policy 48 provides an opportunity to name parks, 5 6 y municipal facilities, and amenities within those facilities after significant geographical, neighborhood, cultural or historical elements; and ^ WHEREAS, City of Carlsbad Council Policy 48 provides a procedure and criteria for the 10 11 12 13 14 WHEREAS, on Jan. 13, 2014, the Historic Preservation Commission met, and on Jan. 27, 15 2014 the Parks & Recreation Commission met and considered the naming opportunity based on the criteria identified in Carlsbad City of Carlsbad Council Policy 48, and both have unanimously voted to recommend the naming, and support the City Council's authorization to formally name the community garden at Calavera Hills Community Park, "Calavera Schoolhouse Community Garden;" and naming of parks, municipal facilities, and amenities within parks or municipal facilities; and WHEREAS, the Parks & Recreation Department has joined forces with the Carlsbad Community Gardens Collaborative for community garden education and outreach; and 16 17 18 19 20 21 WHEREAS, The City Council has reviewed the proposal and found it to be consistent with 22 the criteria identified in the Council Policy; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California, as follows that: 1. The community garden at Calavera Hills Community Park be named "Calavera Schoolhouse Community Garden." 3. Carlsbad Community Gardens Collaborative shall work closely with the city during the design process of the interpretive panels, and the city reserves the right of final approval. 4. Thanks to a generous donation from the Carlsbad Charitable Foundation, the Carlsbad Community Gardens Collaborative will fund the design arid manufacture of the interpretive panels. 5. The Parks & Recreation Department shall be responsible only for the installation and routine maintenance ofthe interpretive signs. 6. The term ofthe naming shall commence on the date hereof, and shall terminate on the 25th anniversary ofthe date of this Resolution, or for the useful life ofthe community garden; whichever comes first. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of Carlsbad on the 11*^ day of February, 2014, by the following vote to wit: AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Council Members Hall, Packard, Wood and Blackburn.
