2 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD,
CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING THE APPROPRIATION OF POLICE
FEDERAL ASSET FORFEITURE FUNDS IN THE AMOUNT OF $1,000 TO
4 CONTRIBUTE TO THE SAN DIEGO SHERIFF'S DEPT TO HELP FUND A
REGIONAL GUN BUY BACK EVENT

WHEREAS, police federal asset forfeiture funds are available to support operations that
further law enforcement goals or missions; and
WHEREAS, the Police Department is participating in a regional gun buy-back event, in
partnership with the San Diego Sheriffs Department on October 24, 2015 where law
11 enforcement will offer community members gift cards in exchange for turning in a firearm; and
12 WHEREAS, the Police Department will contribute $1,000 in federal asset forfeiture funds
to the San Diego Sheriffs Department to purchase gift cards; and
WHEREAS, Carlsbad community members can participate in this gun buy-back event.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California,
as follows that:

18 1. The above recitations are true and correct
1^ 2. The Police Department will contribute $1,000 in federal asset forfeiture funds to the

San Diego Sheriff's Department to purchase gift cards. Use of asset forfeiture funds
21
is allowable in support of operations that further law enforcement goals or missions.

3. The Administrative Services Director is authorized to appropriate police asset
24 forfeiture funds totaling $1,000 to contribute to the San Diego Sheriffs Department
25 to help fund gift cards for a regional gun buy-back event.
