2 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, REQUESTING THE BOARD OF
3 SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF SAN DIEGO
4 CONSOLIDATE THE GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION TO
BE HELD IN THE CITY OF CARLSBAD ON TUESDAY,
5 NOVEMBER 8,2016,WITH THE STATEWIDE GENERAL
ELECTION TO BE HELD ON THAT DATE PURSUANT TO
6 SECTION 10403 OF THE ELECTIONS CODE
7 WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Carlsbad called a General Municipal
8 Election to be held on November 8,2016, for the purpose of the election two (2) Council
9 Members for the full term of four (4) years; and
10 WHEREAS, the City Council is submitting to the voters a ballot question relating
11
to the expenditure of funds to construct a replacement Fire Station 2 located at the
12
intersection of El Camino Real and Arena! Road; and
13
14 WHEREAS, it is desirable that the General Municipal Election be consolidated
15 with the Statewide General Election to be held on the same date and that with the city,
16 the precincts, polling places and election officers of the two elections be the same, and
17 that the county Registrar of Voters of the County of San Diego canvass the returns of
18 the General Municipal Election and that the election be held in all respects as if there
19 were only one election.
20 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad,
21 California, as follows:
22 1.That the above recitations are true and correct.
23 SECTION 1.That pursuant to the requirements of Section 10403 of the Elections
24 Code, the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Diego is hereby requested to consent
25 and agree to the consolidation of a General Municipal Election with the Statewide General
26 Election on Tuesday, November 8, 2016, for the purpose of the two (2) Council Members,
27 for the full term of four (4) years.

1 SECTION 2.That a measure is to appear on the ballot as follows:
2 Do the voters of the City of Carlsbad approve spending existing city funds
3 from various sources, including the General Fund,in an amount to exceed Yes
4 $1 million to construct a replacement Fire Station 2 located at the
intersection of El Camino Real and Arenal Road for an estimated cost range No5
of $7 million up to $10.5 million?

7 SECTION 3.That the San Diego County Registrar of Voters Office is authorized
8
to canvass the returns of the General Municipal Election.The election shall be held in
9
all respects as if there were only one election, only one form of ballot shall be used.

SECTION 4.That the Board of Supervisors is requested to issue instructions to
12 the Registrar of Voters Office to take any and all steps necessary for the holding of the
13 consolidated election.
14 SECTION 5.That the City of Carlsbad recognizes that additional costs will be
15 incurred by the County by reason of this consolidation and agrees to reimburse the
16 County for any costs.
17 SECTION 6.That the City Clerk Services Manager is hereby directed to file a
18
certified copy of this resolution with the Board of Supervisors and the San Diego County
19
Registrar of Voters.

21 SECTION 7.That the City Clerk Services Manager shall certify to the passage and
22 adoption of this resolution.

1 PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a Regular Meeting of the City
2 Council of the City of Carlsbad on the 14th day of June, 2016, by the following vote:
3 AYES:Hall,Wood,Schumacher,Blackburn,Packard.
