HomeMy WebLinkAbout2016-09-20; City Council; Resolution 2016-192RESOLUTION NO. 2016-192 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING A FUNDING APPROPRIATION OF $1,946,133 FROM THE GENERAL FUND BALANCE FOR FY 2016-17 FOR THE NEXTGEN REGIONAL COMMUNICATION SYSTEM (RCS). WHEREAS, the City of Carlsbad, California has participated in the Regional Communication System agreement since 1995; and WHEREAS, the existing communication system has provided high quality voice communications citywide and throughout the region in both San Diego and Imperial Counties; and WHEREAS, the NextGen RCS will replace a communication backbone that is outdated and no longer serviceable by the vendor Motorola. Failed portions of the system have been repaired as parts availability allows or replaced when parts are not available. Replaced parts will be reused in the new system; and WHEREAS, the next generation system will provide effective and reliable voice radio communications for routine intra-and interagency operations as well as interagency communications throughout the region during essential day-to-day operations, mutual aid and disaster operations; and WHEREAS, each agency shares the total infrastructure cost based upon the final contract cost and the total number of radios they have assigned to the network. The City of Carlsbad's portion is $1,946,133; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California, as follows: 1. That the above recitations are true and correct. 2. That the Council authorizes the appropriation of $1,946,133 from the General Fund balance for FY 2016-17 for the NextGen Regional Communication System. PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of Carlsbad on the ~day of Sept. 2016, by the following vote, to wit: AYES: Hall, Wood, Schumacher, Blackburn and Packard NOES: None.
