HomeMy WebLinkAbout2018-07-10; City Council; Resolution 2018-123RESOLUTION NO. 2018-123 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING DESIGN, FABRICATION AND INSTALLATION OF A POLICE OFFICERS' MEMORIAL IN TWO LOCATIONS OF THE CITY'S RIGHT- OF-WAY. EXHIBIT I WHEREAS, there are two locations in the City of Carlsbad where Carlsbad police officers have fallen in the line of duty; and WHEREAS, Officer Billy Jack fell in the line of duty at the Northwest corner of El Camino Real and Faraday Avenue on Sept. 1, 1991; and WHEREAS, Officer Wes Fox fell in the line of duty near the intersection of El Camino Real and Chestnut Avenue on Feb. 13, 1978; and WHEREAS, Carlsbad Municipal Code section 11.44.040 authorizes the city to place signs expressing the city's own message to the public on city property, including the right-of-way; and WHEREAS, staff recommends placement of memorial signs to honor these officers; and WHEREAS, staff has determined that the placement of the memorial signs will not compromise the safety or efficiency of traffic flow; and WHEREAS, the signs shall remain in place for seven years, at which time they will be returned to the Police Department. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California, as follows: 1. That the above recitations are true and correct. 2. That the City Council authorize the installation of the police officer memorial signs at the Northwest corner of El Camino Real and Faraday Avenue, and the intersection of El Camino Real and Chestnut Avenue.
