The foregoing schedule of per diem wages is based on a working day of eight (8) hours. on the project shall be computed on a basic day rate of eight (8) hour8 per day; eight (8) hourir of continuous employment, except for lunch per- iod, constituting a day's work when a single shift is employed and seven and one-half (7*) hours of oontinuous employment, except for lunch period, constituting a day's work when two (2) or more shifts are employed. in excess of eight (8) hours on any one (1) day, or at any time during the interval from 5 o'clock p.m. Friday, to 7 o'clock a.m., Monday or on holidays, and when two (2) or more shift8 are employed, at one and one- half (lp) times the basio rate of pay for all work worked in excess of seven and one-half (7Q) hours on any one (1) day or at any time during the interval from Friday midnight to Sunday midnight, The wages of every laborer and mecrhanicr engaged in work Work The minimum wage rates, if any, herein specified for apprentices shall apply only to persons working writh the tools of the trade they are learning under the direct supervision of journeyman mechanics. The number of apprentices in each trade or occupation employed by the Contractor or any sub-contractor shall not exceed the nwber permitted by the applicable standard8 of the United States Department of Labor, or in the absence of suoh standards of the United States Deprtmnt of Labor, the number per- mitted under the usual practice prevailing between the unions and the em- ployer's associations of the respective trades or occupations, Nothing herein, however, shall prohibit the pagmsnt of more than said general prevailing rate of wages as herein established to any workman employed on said works. All workmen employed by contractors or sub-contractors in the performance of any contract awarded for the COP- struction of the aforementioned facilities shall be deemed to be em- ployed upon public works and entitled to receive the general prevailing rate of per diem wages, and all contractors and sub-contractors under them shall pay not less than said specified prevailing rates ad wages as herein determined, to all said workmen. The foregoing resolution, numbered 38, was duly and regularly passed and adopted at a regular adjourned meeting of the Board of Directors of the Carlsbad Municipal Water District held on the 18th day of December, 1956.
