CMWD 85-401 DESCRIPTION Labor, materials and equipment to (1) remove and dispose of twelve dead eucalyptus trees, plant twelve live eucalvptus trees as replacements and install an above qround drip irrigation system until the trees are established (See attached Landscape Plan for detail of planted area) and (2) to remove weeds across a disturbed slope (approximately .25 acre), apply a specified hydroseed mix (See attached Specification Section for seed mix) with a bonded fiber matrix, and install a temporary above ground overhead irrigation system with a battery-operated valve programmed with the germination cycle. All irrigation systems shall run for a minimum of (1) one year until the trees and veqetation are established. Refer to the attached location map to identify the proiect area. The policies shall name the Carlsbad Municipal Water District as additional insured. Indemnity: The Contractor shall assume the defense of, pay all expenses of defense, and indemnify and hold hannles! the City and the District, and its officers and employees, from all claims, loss, damage, injury and liability o every kind, nature and description, directly or indirectly arising from or in connection with the performance o the Contract or work; or from any failure or alleged failure of Contractor to comply with any applicable law rules or regulations including those related to safety and health; and from any and all claims, loss, damages injury and liability, howsoever the same may be caused, resulting directly or indirectly from the nature of tht work covered by the Contract, except for loss or damage caused by the sole or active negligence or willfu misconduct of the City or the District. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS @ The Contractor shall exercise extreme care and take every precaution necessaiy to prote existing vegetation and slopes. Contractor shall remove only those portions of the existir vegetation necessary for construction of this project. B EXECUTION The Contractor shall subcontract with a licensed landscape contractor to refurbia construction zones. Work shall be accomplished in conformance with Section 308 of tF SSPWC and as shown on the Plans and Specifications. All existing naturally vegetated areas disturbed by construction shall be hydroseeded 1 reestablish plant materials and lessen erosion. Seed mixes shall be as prescribed an instalfed in conformance with these specifications. c HYDROSEEDING Hydroseed areas disturbed of pipeline construction with non-irrigated seed mix Before proceeding with any work, hydroseeding contractor shall carefully check and verif dimensions and hydroseeding area conditions and shall inform the District Enginee immediately of any discrepancies between the specifications and actual conditions. No wor shall be done on any area where there are such discrepancies or where conditions ar unsuitable for successful plant material establishment until approval for work,has been give by the District Engineer. Contractor shall employ a qualified hydroseeding company in accordance with the be3 standards and practices related to the trade and under the continuous supervision of competent foreman capable of interpreting the specifications. Make minor adjustments may be required- Moisten prepared hydroseed areas before planting if soil is dry. Water thoroughly and all( surface moisture to dry before commencing work. Do not create a muddy soil condition. 1 - hydroseed on sealed or crusted soils. 52 Hydroseeding Procedure The Contractor shall examine related work including graded surfaces before proceeding w any work and inform the District Engineer, in writing, of conditions which may prevent t proper execution of this work. Failure to report unsuitable conditions to the District Engineer will constitute acceptance responsibility for the performance of any additional work caused by the unsuitable conditio1 Ail materials shall be standard, approved first-grade quality, and in prime condition wht installed and accepted. Any commercially processed or packaged material shall t disturbed and delivered to the site in their original containers, unopened, bearing ff manufacturer's guaranteed analysis. E3 Hydromulching The hydromulching shall be applied in the form of a slurry consisting of organic sc amendments, commercial fertilizer, and other chemicals specified. When hydraulically spraye onto the soil, the mulch shall not form a blotter-like material. The spray operation must t so directed that the slurry spray will penetrate the soil surface as to drill and mix the stun components into the soil, this ensuring maximum impregnation and coverage. E-4 Preparation of Hydroseeding Mixture Ilhe slurry shall be prepared at the site, and its components shall be mixed to supply the rat€ of application as per specifications. skrny preparation shall begin by adding water to the tank when the engine is at one-ha throttle. When the water level has reached the height of the agitator shaft and goo recirculation has been established, the fertilizers shall be added to the mixture. 0 The engine throttle shall be open to full speed when the tank is 'h filled with water. I I 1 I I Vegetation Restoration (Hydroseeding) - 3 of %- ' ' Spraying shall commence immediately when the tank is full and the slurry mixed. 8 E-5 Time Umit I 1 0 The hydromulching slurry components are not to be left in the hydromulch machine for mo than two hours due to seed destruction. if slurry components are left for more than hf hours in the machine, the Contractor shall add 50% more of the originally specified seed rr to any slurry mix which has not been applied within two hours after mixing. The Contract shall add 75% more or the original seed mix to any slurry mixture which has not been applk eight hours after mixing or it shall be rejected and disposed of off-site at the contractor expense. E-6 Protection Special care is to be exerased by the contractor to prevent any of the slurry from beir sprayed onto any hardscape areas including concrete walks, fences, walls, building, etc. A slurry sprayed onto these areas shall be cleaned off at the contractor's expense if left. The above specified components shall be mixed together in the hydroseeding machir containing at least 2,000 gallons of water to allow for a homogeneous slurry which thoroughly mixed and can be applied easily without clogging. The equipment shall have a buiit-in agitation system and operating capacity sufficient < agitate, suspend and homogeneously mix a slurry containing not less than 44 pounds I organic mulching amendment plus fertilizer, chemical additives and solids for each 100 gallor The hydromulching equipment shall meet the minimum requirements of a slurry distributic line large enough to prevent stoppage and shall be equipped with a set of hydraulic spr; nozzles which will provide a continuous non-fluctuating discharge of at least 25 psi at the er of the spray nozzle. The slurry tank shall have a minimum capacity of 2,000 gallons. . Equipment used for hydroseeding will be thoroughly deaned of all seed and other materia used in preceding hydroseeding processes before any hydroseeding on this project. E-% Inspection and Availability When hydroseeding is completed, the District Engineer will make an inspection to determir acceptability. Give District Engineer 48 hour notice prior to requested inspection When inspected landscape work does not comply with these specifications and punch li items, rejected work shall be corrected and/or replaced and contractor's responsibili continued until inspected again by the District Engineer and found to be acceptable.
