HomeMy WebLinkAbout2018-12-06; Arts Commission; ; COMMUNITY ARTS GRANTS FUNDING PLAN INFORMATION1 City of Carlsbad Community Arts Grants Proposed Funding Plan 2019 2019 Community Arts Grants Funding Plan Information: • Three panels comprised of four panelists each scored applications and created this funding plan • Panels were composed of a diverse selection of community leaders, members of the arts and education sectors and staff from city departments (outside of Library & Cultural Arts) • Applications not recommended for funding received scores that fell below a threshold set by panel members and mutually agreed upon as a minimum score required for funding • Process updates included new applicant workshop, staff review for draft application and performance option for applicant participants • Applicants will be notified of funding status in mid-December 2018 • All projects will take place within calendar year 2019 • All awards are tentative pending revised project forms as required and city’s agreement process • Applications available for review in Cultural Arts Office during regular business hours by appointment only Community Arts Grants Funding Results: • Total Available Funding: $80,000 • Total Applications: 32 • Total 2019 Requests: $143,131 • Total 2019 Funding: $77,000 o $3,000 of funding reserved for Special Opportunities grant program (administered by staff) PANELISTS: Tuesday, November 27, 2018 Merryl Goldberg, Ed. Carlsbad High School Bands REQUEST: $2,500 AWARD: $2,500 Support for 11 teaching artists in residence to support 127 student musicians and color guard performers in various disciplines, working with the students 3-12 hours/week during the semester. Carlsbad High School Film Academy Booster Club REQUEST: $2,500 AWARD: $1,855 Support for five-day summer program where 20 students will be taught to write, produce, and edit short films using their mobile phones. Carlsbad High School Musical Production REQUEST: $2,500 AWARD: $1,325 Support for guest choreographer to work with 40 student actors and singers during 35+ weekly, 2-hour sessions. Participated in panel presentation. 3 Sage Creek High School Dance Department REQUEST: $2,500 AWARD: $2,500 Support for artist-in-residency program for weekly modern dance training by local professional teaching artists for 50 students, and a field trip to a professional dance performance. Sage Creek High School Drama Department REQUEST: $2,500 AWARD: $2,000 Support for professional teaching artist to produce a full-length musical production with 100 students to train in advanced theater techniques. Sage Creek High School Music Department REQUEST: $2,242 AWARD: $2,200 Support for a student-led Jazz Club to purchase synthesizer and equipment to support instrumentation for 23 student musicians, as well as inter-departmental collaborations. Sage Creek High School Visual Arts Department REQUEST: $1,300 AWARD: $1,300 Support for a 7-day plein air painting workshop in and out of the classroom with local artist Kate Joiner for 40 students at SCHS and Agua Hedionda Lagoon, displaying and auctioning off works at the Festival of the Arts to support environmental organizations.
