Executive Summary This report provides a preview of the upcoming city budget process for FY 2019-20. Discussion The city’s budget process for FY2019-20 rolled out in mid-January with a budget informational meeting for managers. The city is now following a base budget process; in the past, it was a block budget approach. All divisions in Library & Cultural Arts must submit their budget draft documents by Feb. 14 for review by leadership. Cultural Arts is preparing budget requests to support a ten percent annual increase in Community Arts Grants funding, a STEAM pilot program and the guest artist residency initiative as detailed in top ten of the Arts 7 Culture Master Plan, which was approved in June 2018. Cultural Arts is also proposing two new staff positions; One full-time Public Art Coordinator and an administrative support staff member to focus on contracts and agreements which have increased significantly in the last two years. Important budget dates to note (may be subject to change): Mar. 4- Citizen’s Budget Workshop (including both operating and capital budget) @ Faraday Room 173B @ 6 p.m. Apr. 5- Completed program summary pages due to Finance. May 21- City Council CIP (Capital Improvement Projects) and Operating Budget Workshop at City Council Chamber @ 6 p.m. June 18- Public Hearing/ Budget Adoption @ City Council Chamber @ 6 p.m. Fiscal Analysis Funding to support new initiatives and staff positions will be requested as part of the city’s annual budget process. Next Steps Arts Commissioners are encouraged to attend the events related to the budget process. Public Notification This document was noticed in accordance with the Ralph M.
