Approve the recommendation by the Visit Carlsbad Board to appoint to its Board.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
At its 5-8-19 meeting, the Carlsbad Tourism Business Improvement District (CTBID) Board
entered into an agreement with the Carlsbad Convention and Visitors Bureau (dba Visit Carlsbad)
to provide tourism promotion seNices for the CTBID for the period July 1, 2019 through June 30,
2020. A provision in this contract was that the CTBID Board had to approve any changes to the
Visit Carlsbad Board.
In a letter from Visit Carlsbad Executive Director, Sam Ross, to CTBID Board Chair, Tim Stripe,
the Visit Carlsbad Board is recommending that the CTBID Board approve the appointment of Ms.
Michelle Zwirek, Director of Sales and Marketing at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa to fill the seat
vacated by Mrs. Patsy Bock on the Visit Carlsbad Board of Directors. (See letter and Bio at
attached Exhibits)
FISCAL IMPACT:
None.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
This action does not qualify as a project under the California Environment Quality Act ("CEQA")
and will not have a physical adverse effect on the environment. (CEQA Regulation 15378(b).

Marketing at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa as the replacement for Mrs. Patsy
Bock on the Visit Carlsbad board of directors.
Per the agreement between the CTBID and Visit Carlsbad we ask that the
CTBID board approve Ms. Zwirek at the next CTBID meeting to be held on

We are excited to welcome Michelle as director of sales and marketing at Omni La
Costa Resort & Spa!
Michelle joins Omni most recently from Fairmont Hotels and Resorts, where she jl..lSt
concluded a very successful 18-year tenure. During her time with Fairmont, she
worked at five different properties induding thrse resorts. She began her hospitality
career in food and beverage and transitioned into sales first ;as special events
manager, express meeting manager, then national sales manager, director of group,
director of sales and fina lly, director of sales and marketing.
Michelle earned her bachelor's degree in political science and history from the
University of Ottawa. She is a die-hard San Jose Sharks fan and loves to travel, cook
and vo'lunteer in her free time.
