ITEM EXPLANATION: At its 5-15-13 meeting, the Carisbad Tourism Business Improvement District (CTBID) Board entered into an agreement with the Carlsbad Convention and Visitors Bureau (dba Visit Carisbad) to provide tourism promotion services forthe CTBID forthe period July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2014. A provision in this contract was that the CTBID Board had to approve any changes to the Visit Carisbad Board. In a letter from Visit Carlsbad Board Executive Director, Sam Ross, to CTBID Board Chair, Tim Stripe, the Visit Carisbad Board is recommending that the CTBID Board approve the appointment of Ms. Linda Hopkins, Director of Sales for West Inn & Suites, and Mr. Michael Murray, General Manager for Homewood Suites, to fill the seats vacated by Ms. Kristine Band and Ms. Kimberiy Foo on the VisitCarisbad Board of Directors. (See letter and Bio at attached Exhibits) FISCAL IMPACT: None. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: This action does not qualify as a project under the California Environment Quality Act ("CEQA") and will not have a physical adverse effect on the environment. HOPKINS Linda Hopkins moved to Carisbad in 2008 after joining the staff at West Inn and Suites as Director of Sales in November of 2007. As head of sales for an independent boutique hotel, Linda has worn many hats. Working to drive sales revenue from both the corporate and leisure markets, including small groups and wedding room blocks, Linda's job has taken her throughout the US and Canada for numerous trade shows and sales blitzes. While not directly involved in marketing for West, she regularly attends the West Village internal PR and marketing meetings. As an active member of the San Diego Business Travel Association for 6 years, Linda attends the monthly luncheon meetings and is involved with their current charity, Operation Game On. She has attended the Global Business Travel Association Annual Convention as an exhibitor for 6 years and has represented West on the KUSI Morning Show in order to promote events for West Inn and Suites, West Steak and Seafood, and Bistro West. During her years at West, Linda Hopkins, has developed lasting professional partnerships and relationships in Carlsbad, San Diego and throughout the US. Prior to joining the hospitality industry in 2007, Linda Hopkins was a real estate professional for over 20 years selling private homes, ranches, and custom home sites in the Temecula Valley. She raised two children who are now grown. Her son, Kenny, is an entrepreneurial farmer who owns both a hydroponic strawberry U-Pick farm and a traditional, in-ground strawberry farm in Rainbow. After graduating from UCLA, her daughter, Amanda joined her mother in the hospitality sales industry and is a National Sales Manager for L'Auberge in Del Mar. Her husband. Lance owned and was the managing partner of Target Framing, with offices in Fallbrook, Vista and Carisbad, for over 30 years and retired in 2011.
