ITEM EXPLANATION: (1)1 / At its 3-18-08 meeting, The CTBID board established a formal grant program. The objectives of the grant program are to: • Fund projects or events that are going to increase the overnight stays in hotels; • Encourage the development of innovative tourism products; • Promote collaboration within and across sectors of the tourism industry; • Reach important travel segments such as multicultural, family and senior markets; • Strengthen the marketing capacity of our partnering organizations; and • Combine the resources of the CTBID and its tourism partners to leverage their collective marketing efforts. The CTBID Board appropriated $200,000 in its 2016-17 budget to fund these grants. The following amounts were awarded: $17,000 to In Motion Events, the producers of the Carlsbad Marathon, $20,000 to the Carlsbad 5000, $20,000 to the La Costa Film Festival, $7000 to the Carlsbad Brewfest, and $35,000 to the LPGA Kia Classic. In addition, $20,000 was awarded in the previous year to the Bike MS event which took place in October 2016. That report is included in these final reports. Internationally known as the 'World's Fastest SK,' the 2017 event brought in some of the world's best SK athletes. On the women's side, 2004 Olympian, Courtney Babcock, took the title. On the men's side, Ethiopian, Dejen Gebremeskel earned his 5th Carlsbad 5000 title! If you missed any of the action, you can watch the archive footage of the broadcast on Competitor.com. 2017 was the fourth year the investment was made on national on line television coverage of the event. For the fourth year in a row there was a shorter race day schedule, American only prize money and medals for all finishers. -" ': ·~it!!!'; " competitor group World Class Participants Top Elite Men "' '.J1IB.N!«M~ 1NME-, . The event was deemed more successful than last year with several learning opportunities for next year. In the end I know people left the event happy and patronizing restaurants throughout downtown Carlsbad ... because we ran into mariy of them personally. The best success is everyone in the planning team is already talking about next year ... now that shows t rue success, in my eyes©. We have sponsors vyho want to join in and collaborate even more at Brewfest 2017. First: We managed to promote the hotel and received at least one satisfied customer; this program could be easily expanded and now that we know how to promote without either side·having to tally anythipg next year will bring more opportunities . . Second: Social media reach much farther thanks to the generosity of this grant. Th ird : We aimed for 1500 and had =1200; and so many people said they will t~II friends next year as it was fun ! ·. Fourth: We aimed to educate and we had two successful sessions that had standing room only with 50 chairs all filled with exuberant learners. Fifth: Attached is our supporting documents to analytics, expenses and a satisfied guest at West. My brother in law came from Hermosa Beach AGAIN ... brought his wife and can't wait until next year · Warm Regards and many thanks, Lisa Rodman Chief Executive Officer Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation -Discovery Center "The People's lagoon" 1580 Cannon Road Carlsbad CA 92008 Office 760.804.1969 Cell 760.271.1356 www:aguahedionda.org our Membership makes it Happe14! Multiple sclerosis interrupts the flow of information between the brain and the body and it stops people from moving. Every hour in the United States, someone is newly diagnosed with MS, an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system. Symptoms range from numbness and tingling to blindness and paralysis. The progress, severity and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot yet be predicted, but advances in research and treatment are moving us closer to a world free of MS. Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, with more than twice as many women as men being diagnosed with the disease. ABOUT THE NATIONAL MS SOCIETY MS stops people from moving. The National MS Society exists to make sure it doesn't. We help each person address the challenges of living with MS. Last year alone, through our home office and 50 state network of chapters, we devoted over $122.2 million to programs that enhanced more than one million lives. National Multiple Sclerosis Society Pacific South Coast Chapter To move us closer to a world free of MS, the Society also invested over $50.2 million to support 380 research projects around the world. Locally, the Pacific South Coast Chapter provides programs and services designed to help the 51,500 people and families affected by MS in San Diego, Orange and Imperial counties, and the Hawaiian Islands move their lives forward.
