Adopt Resolution 6~7 approving Change Order No. 7 for import of additional soils to mix with on-site material in order to achieve the required compaction for the new Operations Center of the District - CMWD Project No. 86-107. .
ITEM EXPLANATION
Construction of the District's new Operations Center is continuing.
The contract calls for an average of five feet of soils to be removed and recompacted prior to the construction of any parking area, sidewalks, buildings or other structures. The contractor has encountered very wet soil during excavation of the remaining parking and driveway area. This wet soil makes it impossible for the contractor to achieve the required compaction. As a result,
imported material, approved by the soils engineer, has to be mixed with the on-site material to achieve the proper compaction.
The contract included unit prices for additional earth work if required. The additional work required is as follows:
1200 cubic yards import material @ $8.25/yd. = $ 9,900.oo 1500 cubic yards aeration & mixing @ $2.75/yd. = 4,125.OO Equipment move in (lump sum) = 600.00
Total for this Change Order No. 7 $14,625.00
Staff has had several meetings with the contractor and the soils engineer and recommends approval of this Change Order No. 7.
FISCAL IMPACT
The 1989-90 budget amount for this project is $2,000,000. The original contract amount was for $1,741,668.00. This Change Order No. 7 brings the total contract amount to $1,883,235.00. Therefore, there are sufficient monies in the budget for this additional change.

RESOLUTION NO. 443
A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CARLSBAD MUNICIPAL WATER DISTRICT, APPROVING PROJECT CHANGE ORDER NO. 7 FOR THE DISTRICT'S NEW OPERATIONS CENTER CMWD PROJECT NO. 86-107
WHEREAS, import of additional soils is required in order
to achieve the required compaction for the remaining areas being
worked on at the new Operations Center; and

WHEREAS, the Board of Directors of the Carlsbad
Municipal Water District hereby finds it necessary to import the
additional soil as recommended in order that proper compaction
can be accomplished prior to the construction of any parking
areas, sidewalks, buildings or other structures.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Directors
of the Carlsbad Municipal Water District, as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That project Change Order No. 7 in the amount of
$14,625.00 is hereby approved and the Board President is
authorized to execute said change order. Following the Board
President's signature of said change order, the Secretary of the
Board is authorized and directed to return the original copy of
said document to the Carlsbad Municipal Water District for
processing.
