CONTRACT FOR WATER METERS
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Staff recommends the Board of Directors adopt Resolution No. 2 YL awarding an
annual contract for water meters with the option to renew each contract for two one (1) year
periods.
ITEM EXPLANATION
The City of Carlsbad ,purchases various sizes of water meters for domestic, industrial and
agricultural use. In order to take advantage of purchasing in volume, a bid proposal for
annual usage of water meters was developed. In accordance with Section 3.28.120 of the
Municipal Code, Notice to Bidders was published and Request for Bids were sent to eleven
vendors.
On June 8, 1993, six responses were received, opened, witnessed and recorded. Following
the evaluation of the bids by the staff of the Purchasing Department and Carlsbad Municipal
Water District, it is recommended the City enter into an annual contract with two vendors.
The lowest most responsive bid for Items #l and 5 was submitted by Schlumberger
Industries, Inc., 25283 Cabot Road #221, Laguna Hills, CA 92679 in the amount of $45,283.
The lowest most responsive bid for items #2, 3 and 4 was submitted by the Mueller Co., P
0 Box 128, Highway 70, Cleveland, NC 27013 in the amount of $33,114.
FISCAL IMPACT
Funds in the amount of $221,000 are available in the Carlsbad Municipal Water District’s Water Meter and Fittings account for the purchase of water meters during fiscal year 1993-94.

7 1. That the bid of Schlumberger Industries, Inc., 25283 Cabot Road #221, Laguna
8 Hills, CA 92679 for Items #l and 5 as shown on Exhibit “A”, is hereby accepted and the
g Purchasing Officer is hereby authorized to execute a purchase order for the purchase of water
10 meters in the amount of 845,283 plus tax for the period of one year beginning July 1, 1993
11 through June 30, 1994, with the option to renew for two one (1) year periods with no increases
12 of the prices in effect at the end of the initial contract period.
