RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. NDY approving extension of an agreement with an
engineering service consultant for District Engineer.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The District presently contracts with Robert W. Coates, P.E., an independent
contractor, for services as District Engineer.
Within the next two months, the District intends to fill the District Engineer position with
a permanent full-time employee. Recruitment for this position has begun, and the Oral
Board interviews were performed on March 10, 1994. Therefore, the Board is
requested to approve a two-month extension to the present consultant’s contract to
allow the District time to secure a permanent employee for the position.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Funds in the amount of $90,000 have been appropriated in the fiscal year 1993-94
budget for District Engineer services. As of February 28, 1994, $30,000 is available for
these services. This extension of the consultant agreement is for an amount not to
exceed $16,000; therefore, there are sufficient funds available.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CARLSBAD MUNICIPAL WATER
DISTRICT OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING AN
EXTENSION OF AGREEMENT WITH AN ENGINEERING
SERVICES CONSULTANT FOR DISTRICT ENGINEER
WHEREAS, the services of an engineering services consultant for District
Engineer is necessary because staff expertise is limited in this area; and
WHEREAS, a satisfactory agreement has been negotiated with Robert W.
Coates, P.E.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Directors of the
Carlsbad Municipal Water District as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That the Board of Directors hereby authorizes the President to execute the
attached extension to the engineering services agreement with Robert W. Coates.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a special meeting of the Board of
Directors of the Carlsbad Municipal Water District of Carlsbad, California, on the
22nd day of MARCH I 1994, by the following vote to wit:
AYES: Board Members Lewis, Stanton, Nygaard, Finnila
NOES: None
ABSENT: Board Member Kulchin

EXTENSION OF AGREEMENT
FOR CONSULTANT ENGINEERING SERVICES
This extension to the agreement between the Carlsbad Municipal Water District and
Jj~brt W. Coqtes. P.E., dated SeDtember 11, 1992 I is hereby extended for a
period of two months from March 11, 1994, ending on May 11, 1994, and for an amount not
to exceed $16,000. All other terms and conditions of the contract remain in effect.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, we have hereunto set our hands and seals as of this
