RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Staff recommends Council adopt Resolution No. 9 5 5 , accepting the bid
proposal of Bay City Electric Works Inc. to provide a portable generator to the Carlsbad
Municipal Water District.
ITEM EXPLANATION
Currently there are six sewer pump stations that share one emergency portable
generator unit. In the event of a large, sustained power outage, this generator is
moved from pump station to pump station on an as-needed basis. Due to the distance
between stations and the time needed for travel, set-up and break-down of the
generator, the potential of a sewage spill during this scenario approached certainty.
This new generator will be located at the Fox’s pump station (east side of the l-5
freeway and the north side of Agua Hedionda Lagoon). This location was given priority
because of the large flows pumped through this station and the sensitive surrounding
environment.
In accordance with Section 3.28.120 of the Municipal Code, Notice to Bidders was
published and Requests for Bid were sent to eight vendors. Only one bid was
received. The CMWD Operations Superintendent has reviewed, and recommends
acceptance of, the bid from Bay City Electric Works Inc. in the amount of $41,500.00
FISCAL IMPACT
The funds to purchase this item are in the District’s approved budget for fiscal year
1996-97.

RESOLUTION NO. 955
A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE
CARLSBAD MUNICIPAL WATER DISTRICT, ACCEPTING A
BID AND AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASE OF A PORTABLE
GENERATOR.
WHEREAS, the Carlsbad Municipal Water District desires to purchase an
emergency portable generator to help assure public health and safety, and;
WHEREAS, proper bidding procedures have resulted in the receipt of a bid from a
qualified vendor;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Directors of the Carlsbad
Municipal Water District, as follows:
1. The bid of Bay City Electric Works, Inc. is hereby accepted.
2. The Purchasing Officer is hereby authorized and directed to issue a purchase
order for the purchase of a portable generator in the amount of $41,500.00.
PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Carisbad Municipal

Water District held on the 10th da-y of September , 1996, by the following
vote to wit:
