RECOMMENDED ACTION:
This is an informational item only; there is no staff recommendation at this time.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
On July 31, 1998, CALFED released a draft document for public review and comment entitled,
“Developing a Draft Preferred Program Alternative.” The draft document describes how staged
implementation and decision-making can be used to develop a preferred alternative and
outlines a draft implementation plan for the first seven years of the CALFED Program (Stage I),
Over the past several months, the draft document has evolved into the primary vehicle for
developing a CALFED preferred alternative.
Staff has concerns about the approach that CALFED is following in selecting a preferred
alternative. These concerns are shared by the staffs of the San Diego County Water Authority
and other Bay-Delta Urban Coalition (BDUC) members. The purpose of this report is to inform
the Board to these concerns. Staff will be making the presentation on this important issue.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no fiscal impact as a result of this recommendation.
