Quantification Settlement

This is an informational item only and there is no staff recommendation.
Item ExDlanation:
On October 15, 1999 negotiators from the State and three California water agencies reached agreement
on key terms for a quantification settlement of Colorado River agricultural water allocations within
California. On October 18, the Board of Directors from each of the agencies, Imperial Irrigation District
(IID), Coachella Valley Water District (CVWD), and the Metropolitan Water District (MWD), approved
use of the document entitled “Key Terms for Quantification Settlement Among the State of California,
IID, CVWD, and MWD” as the basis for completing a quantification agreement among the parties.
Such an agreement is an important step in accomplishing the San Diego County Water Authority’s water
transfer with the Imperial Irrigation District. While the Authority attended the negotiating sessions, its
role was that of an observer. The authority is not a signatory to the document.
CMWD staff will be making a presentation on this topic at tonight’s Board meeting.
