REPORT

GENERAL
New Recreation Area Manager
Recreation Area Manager Margaret Hamer started on Oct. 29. Margaret will be overseeing the Senior
Center, Pine Avenue Community Center, and citywide youth, teen, and senior program activities.
Margaret has over eighteen years of full-time experience with the City of San Clemente and worked in
every area of operations (special events, youth and adult sports, marketing, contract instructors,
facilities, permits, aquatics, camps, mobile recreation, preschool programs, and teen programs.) In
addition to her municipal experience, she has an extensive private sector experience with event
management, marketing, and promotions. She also holds a master’s in business administration with a
concentration in nonprofit management.
Recreation Statistical Report
September recreation program revenues are slightly higher ($2,000) than last fiscal year. Fiscal year-to-
date increases/decreases include:
• Enrichment – $13,000
• Adult Sports – ($12,000)
• Youth Sports – $2,000
• Sports Instructional Classes- ($1,000)
• Senior Instructional Classes – ($5,000)
• Leo Carrillo Instructional Classes - $7,000
• Aquatic Programs – $28,000
• Recreation Swim – $9,000
• Aquatic Lessons – $3,000
• Alga Norte Instructional Classes - $24,000
• Alga Norte Food & Beverage – ($7,000)
• Alga Norte Birthday Parties – $0

September recreation permit and rental revenues are up 21 percent ($75,000) compared to last fiscal
year. Fiscal year-to-date increases/decreases include:
• Leo Carrillo Historic Ranch Park – $16,000
• Senior Center – $7,000
• Stagecoach Community Park – $7,000
• Poinsettia/Aviara Community Parks – ($5,000)
• Calavera Hills Community Park – ($1,000)
• Harding – $6,000
• Pine – $7,000
• Alga Norte Facility - $4,000
• Alga Norte Park – ($12,000)
• Alga Norte Lane Rentals – $60,000
• Monroe Lane Rentals – ($14,000)
• Lagoon Permits - $0
Stagecoach Goes Wireless
Wi-Fi was recently installed in Stagecoach Community Center, and is coming soon to Calavera
Community Center. Visitors will now be able to multitask and get work done on their laptops and other
mobile devices while visiting the center. In addition, having free and publicly available Wi-Fi creates
attractive places to gather, and will provide for a greater diversity of technology-based instructional
programming. Many thanks to IT staff – Joe Stephenson, Lisa Vante, and Gary Hornby – for their
efforts and diligence in making this significant improvement happen.

Super Hero Obstacle Race
It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s 450 super heroes running through Alga Norte Community Park on a 2K quest
to conquer twenty superhero themed obstacles on Sunday, Oct. 7. The challenges included Toxic
Tunnels, Bank Bag races, Capture the Crook, Superman Slide, Military Mazes, Wrecking Ball, Leap Tall
Buildings, Trampoline Bounce, and so much more. This family fun event this past Sunday was a SUPER
success!
