Fiscal Year 2019-2020
DRAFT
I. Mission Statement
The Mission of the Senior Commission is to champion an age-inclusive environment that promotes
wellness, vitality and education that leads to a vibrant quality of life.
II. Composition
The senior commission shall consist of five members appointed by the mayor with the approval of
the city council. Members shall serve four-year terms.
III. FY 2019-2020 Goals & Tasks
• Complete a community needs assessment for Adults 50+ to obtain input on what is important
and what are the needs of this demographic with a focus on deisolation and social inclusion.
• Promote and support the City of Carlsbad Age-Friendly initiative with the San Diego Foundation.
• Create Adult 50+ opportunities beyond the Senior Center and throughout the City of Carlsbad to
include parks, community centers, libraries, theaters and more.
• Foster technology friendly experiences for Adults 50+ to enhance connectivity.
• Expand education beyond the center, from the outside in and inside out collaborating with
universities, hospitals, nonprofits and other organizations, utilizing technology tools.
