MEETING OF THE CARLSBAD BICENTENNIAL COMMITTEE
OCTOBER 31, 1974
The Carlsbad Bicentennial Committee met at 4:00 P. M.,, October
31, 1974, in the City Council Conference Room. Chairman Dunne called
the meeting to order at 4:10 P. M. Attending committee members were:
Jerry Rombotis, Bill Nickles, Jayce McClellan, B. M. Christiansen,
John Mamaux, D. M. Dunne, and Connie Luedtke.
Mr. Don Patera, representative from Brown and Bigelow of St.
Paul, Minnesota, gave a presentation of items pertaining to the Bi-
centennial that can be used as "money makers" for our treasury. Some
of the items were prints of Revolutionary soldiers and ships, a book
on the "People of the Revolution", pewter type tankards with the Bi-
centennial seal, pens, playing cards, etc. This will be discussed
further at our December meeting.
A discussion was held regarding our Bicentennial Certification
presentation. It was decided that the celebration would be a lunch-
eon at La Costa, Thursday, December 5th at 11:45 A. M. for no-host
cocktails, with lunch to begin at 12:30. The cost will be $5.00.
Invitations will be sent out with an RSVP. Mr. Bill Nickles is in
charge of the luncheon. He will be contacting a group of singers
from Mira Costa to perform. John Mamaux will contact a.guitarist
who has entertained at the Boy's Club. Jerry Rombotis will make ar-
rangements to have the Liberty Bell replica on display. Jayce
McClellan will have a flag display of the thirteen original colonies
to be used as table decorations. Special invitations will be sent
to some of our City and State officials to be our guests. It was
brought up that possibly the Rotary Club could have a make-up meet-
ing with us so that they could participate in the celebration. The
general public will also be invited. Guy Ryan will be contacted to
ask if he will be master of ceremonies.
Chairman Dunne stated that El Jose is in charge of our American-
ism Program and that there will be further d.iscussion on that subject
and the "Meet the Americans" Program at our next meeting.
Project Coordinator, B. M. Christiansen, will have a meeting the
first of the year with his liaison people to discuss plans.
Letters from Councilman Skotnicki , Congressman Burgener, and
State Senator Stull were read.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at
5:15 P. M.
