July 20,
Children's Library
3075 Harding Street
Carlsbad, California
The meeting was called to ordde at 8:10 by Mr. Robert
Stauber. Mr. Stauber suggested the Building Committee recommend
the City Council accept recommendation frcrr the Library Trust fefe
to follow throxigh on a Bond Election to build a new City Library.
Discussion followed as to costs and sqvare footage estimates in
Library plans; also financing procedures. Mr. Atkinson suggested
that the Building Committee recommend the City Council to ask the
engineering ^iawn of Tanlel, Mann, Johnson and Mendenhall, now
woiUklnrr on a master plan for the city to include Library needs
in Its study and make a special report on this as soon BS possible
(possibly within three or four weeks). This brought up the question
cf timing and whether the time required for this study would delay
the possible bond election until next year. Councilmen Hughes and
Atkinson expressed the thought that a specific recomnendaticn from
the Building Committee was unnecessary since the one from the
Library Board of Trustees reqxaestlng a bend election was sufficient
to put it on the City Council a.;,enda.
Mrs. Lheffler asked for clarification of procedure for recommending
new appointments to the Library Board of Trustees. . .as one letter
previously sent with appointment recommendations had had no reponse.
Mr. Hughes suggested that more than one nar, e be recommended and City
Manager Mamaux said that all names recommended would be brought to
the Council's attention for consideration, }"rs. Sheffler also
