The Carlsbad Youth Theatre grant was discussed. Comments were made that they have no professional staff and they are not a non-profit organization. Suggestions were made to encourage them to hook up with another organization such as the Patrons or Friends of the Library to improve quality and to encourage them to look to other sources of funding. According to Youth Theatre's budget, $550 will be spent on the September production with the remainder on their December production. The motion was made to reduce Carlsbad Youth Theatre's grant from $2,000 to $550. The Open Forum was discussed. It was decided that the Safety Center would be the first choice for location. Agenda was discussed. There will be an update of the present program. Public should be given time for input. The meeting should focus on forming a Friends group. The name was discussed. It was decided that "Friends" would be confused with Friends of the Library. Associates of the Arts Commission and Arts Auxiliary were suggested. At the forum the information to be presented should include why form a group, and what will the group accomplish. It should include objectives which are providing a support volunteer group, fundraising, disseminating information, promoting the arts and giving feedback from the community. Commissioner Frye suggested that a questionnaire be circulated at the forum. Commissioner Bischoff arrived at 4:20 p.m. Ms. Beardsley reported on the public art projects in the Redevelopment Area.
