TO ORDER: Chairman Bear called the Meeting to order at 5;05 p.m. ROLL CALL; Present - Chairman Bear, Commissioners Bischoff, Brierley and Straub. Absent - Commissioners Frye, Meilach and Roston. Staff Member Present: Connie Beardsley, Manager, Arts Office OLD BUSINESS; APPROVAL OF MINUTES; Approval of the Ouly 14, 1988, Minutes was tabled until a majority of Commissioners present at that meeting could be present. MANAGER'S REPORT; Connie Beardsley highlighted the topics included in her report, copy of which was included in the packet. She added that the parking at the Pops Concert will need to be revised due to the addition of a fireworks display. Also, the lighting for the parking area will be a problem. She said that volunteers will be present with flashlights. Commissioner Straub suggested a portable generator, and Ms. Beardsley will investigate that further, particularly if it could be turned off during the performance. Ms. Beardsley reported that $5,000 has been requested from the School District, and Commissioner Brierley said it is in the budget, but the budget is on hold at the present time. This was for the Arts Office program of inservice training in Arts Education. Ms. Beardsley announced the art work has been shipped to Futtsu, Oapan, and their art work is on display at the Library. The Arts Associates had expressed disappointment that no Commissioners attend their meetings. The Arts Associates will plan to send a representative to attend the Arts Commission meetings. The Commissioners felt the Associates were off to a good start, with 200 members at this time. Ms. Beardsley stated that the fireworks display had been donated by Union Pacific Realty Company. NEW BUSINESS; STAGECOACH PARK ARTIST RECOMMENDATION - for approval Connie Beardsley read the description of the art work to be placed in Stagecoach Park and added that public comment had been in favor of the piece chosen. MINUTES August 11, 1988 ARTS COMMISSION Page 2 COMMISSIONERS Ms. Beardsley stated she felt some mention should be made of the process followed in choosing the art work for the Park. Arts Commission approved the activity of the subcommittee and their recommendation for the sculpture at Stagecoach Park and recommended approval to the City Council. Connie Beardsley announced she would present this recommendation to the Parks and Recreation Commission on Monday, August 15, 1988, as an information item.
