HomeMy WebLinkAbout1991-06-06; Arts Commission; MinutesMINUTES Meeting of: Time of Meeting: Date of Meeting: Place of Meeting: ARTS COMMISSION 3:30 p.m. June 6, 1991 Council Conference Room COMMISSIONERS CALL TO ORDER: Chairperson Meilach called the Meeting to order at 4:00 p.m. IOLL CALL: Absent: Commissioner Batter taff Members Present: Connie Beardsley, Arts Manager APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Che minutes of the Regular Meeting held May 2, 1991 were .pproved. resent:Commissioners Meilach, Wrench, Schuling, Kauffman, Ladouceur, Straub. PUBLIC COMMENT: There was no public comment. COMMITTEE REPORTS: Programming Task Force Commissioner Schuling stated the Task Force report was under- going revisions and should be ready for review within the next few weeks. Arts Associates President Jackie Wrench reported the Festejando was a success. She further reported on the Art Card Project. Commissioner Schuling is helping fundraise on this project. The Associates goal is $10,000 in donations from businesses and corporations for this project. Chair Dona Meilach asked how many businesses the Arts Associates had contacted. Ms. Schuling stated she was contacting between 25-30 businesses. Manager's Report Connie Beardsley reminded the Commission of the upcoming jazz concerts. She also told the Commission of an upcoming COMBO workshop on July 16. Ms. Beardsley stated that the Arts Office budget was going to Council for approval this month. OLD BUSINESS: Artist Jan Sanchez presented the final design of her artwork for the new Library for approval. She explained both works she is creating: A trellis of leaf cutouts in copper to extend along the front of the building and a neon piece to be placed in the ceiling of the auditorium foyer. Wrench Meilach Kauffman Schuling Ladouceur Straub Ladouceur Wrench Meilach Schuling Straub Kauffman MINUTES June 6, 1991 Page 2 COMMISSIONERS NEW BUSINESS: Assistant City Attorney Ron Ball and City Clerk Lee Rautenkranz explained the City's local Conflict of Interest Code to Commissioners. The Commissioners will be asked to fill out these forms at a later date. Organ, Carlsbad Theatre Julie Heard gave a presentation regarding an organ that was donated to the Carlsbad Theatre that needs work. The San Diego Organ Society has assessed this organ and has determined it should be repaired. They have asked for volunteers to help perform this work. It was mentioned that since the Carlsbad Theatre is not open to the public, it is not approp- riate to work on the project at present. Presentation of Financing Facilities Financial Management Director Jim Elliott presented various alternatives on financing facilities within the City.
