Home My WebLink About1997-02-06; Arts Commission; MinutesMINUTES Arts Commission Meeting February 6, 1997 • 4:30 PM City Manager's Conference Room Meeting Called To Order at 4:30 p.m. Present: Commissioners Wood, Willis, Batter, Pynes, Chartier, Lignante, Plainer APPROVAL OF MINUTES Commissioner Lignante asked that the December Minutes be amended under 1-5 Corridor Report to state, "...Committee held a workshop on December 17 and will hold another one on January 16 at the Senior Center." On motion by Commissioner Wood, the Minutes of January 2, 1997 are approved as amended. AYES: Commissioners Wood, Willis, Batter, Pynes, Chartier, Lignante, Platner OLD BUSINESS La Costa Library Artwork Update Arts Manager Connie Beardsley told the Commission that the new Library is going forward. Groundbreaking is planned to take place in October. The Library is expected to open in approximately two years. Three artists were selected to design public artwork for the new Library. The works of artist Deloss McGraw are complete. Artists Jan Sanchez and Ellen Ziegler design proposals will be reviewed by the Commission at the March meeting. Mrs. Beardsley also reminded the Commission that a 2000 sq. ft. gallery is also part of the new Library. NEW BUSINESS The Future of the Arts In Carlsbad Commissioner Chartier gave an overview of a plan for marketing the arts in Carlsbad based on decisions made during a Commission workshop held November 2, 1996. He stated that during the workshop the Commissioners agreed to pursue eight-nine areas to work in. The Commission discussed how to address the plan and decided to hold a workshop within the next month to specifically examine the plan. Election of Chair On motion by Commissioner Platner, Commissioner Wood was nominated to serve as Chair. AYES: Commissioners Wood, Willis, Batter, Pynes, Chartier, Lignante, Platner On motion on Commissioner Wood, Commissioner Chartier was nominated to serve as Vice Chair. AYES: Commissioners Wood, Willis, Batter, Pynes, Chartier, Lignante, Platner The meeting adjourned at 6:00 p.m.
