August 4, 2000 TO: ARTS MANAGER ASSISTANT LIBRARY DIRECTOR FROM: SENIOR MANAGEMENT ANALYST PROPOSED LEDGERWOOD MEMORIAL At the July 11, 2000 City Council meeting, several citizens addressed the Council with a request to memorialize Mr. Charles Ledgerwood. As you are aware, Mr. Ledgerwood was a long time Carlsbad resident, local merchant, former mayor, and friend to many. With respect to this item, Ms. Shelly Grossman presented a specific request to rename the sculpture park in his honor and to install a tile panel archway, raised planters and bench, landscaping and a sculpture in the likeness of the former mayor. After discussion, the Council members recommended to refer this item to the Parks and Recreation Commission, Historic Preservation Commission and Arts Commission, for their review and recommendation back to the City Council. I have volunteered to take the lead on this issue from a staff liaison position and I am recommending a subcommittee be formed with one (1) representative from each commission. The subcommittee can review the Council videotape regarding this Agenda item and develop a recommendation for consideration by each respective Board prior to rendering its recommendation back to Council. Therefore, I am requesting that you please submit the name of a Commissioner from the Boards that you staff so that a subcommittee can initiate review of this issue. Thank you for your consideration, if you have any questions please call me at extension 2827. KEITH BEVERLY C: City Manager Assistant City Manager Library Director Recreation Director City Attorney
