Ron Juncal, Sherman DeForest, Fran Carrillo Chair Hill called the Meeting to Order at 9:00 a.m. Minutes On motion by Commissioner Iserloth, the Arts Commission approved the March 2, 2006 Minutes. New Business Presentation of Center City Gateway by Assistant City Manager Lisa Hildebrand and Community Development Director Sandra Holder. Ms. Hildebrand and Ms. Holder gave the Commission a power point presentation and overview of possible ideas regarding the Center City Gateway. Open discussion among Commissioners and the public followed the presentation. Election of Chair/Vice Chair The Arts Commission unanimously elected Gary Hill to serve again as Chair and Ron Juncal to serve as Vice Chair. Commissioners' Reports Commissioner DeForest shared photos of pictographs in Baja. Commissioner Carrillo reported she was attending Community Grant events during April and May. Commissioner Juncal reported he saw the New Village Arts Production of "Playboy of the Western World" and showed his artworks at Jazzercise; ArtSplash is developing well; and a TV production company is interested in street painting. Rock stacking is attracting wide interest. Commissioner Juncal explained he is working on how to use it to spur creativity and art awareness. He is also creating sand images. Chair Hill reported Hidden Canyon Park was opening on April 29. He would like field trips planned for the Commissioners to see the City's public artworks and if possible, have the artist that created the works at the site for discussion. He would also like to invite the public to attend these field trips. Mr. Hill proposed the Commission meet first, adjourn its meeting at 10 and reconvene at the artwork site. He would also like photos taken and provided to City Council to keep them aware of the artworks in the City. Commissioners Iserloth and Juncal also favored this idea. Manager's Report Colleen Finnegan announced the upcoming Asking for Eyes opening reception on April 22 along with the lecture. The Carlsbad Music Festival takes place in the Schulman Auditorium on May 5-7, and the Carlsbad to Karlovy Vary Competition takes place on May 13 at the Schulman Auditorium. Meeting adjourned at 10.18 a.m.
