Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m. by Tina Schmidt, Chair of the Arts Commission. II. Roll Call Commissioners Present: DeForest, Friese, Johnson, Schmidt, and Voll Commissioners Absent: Aquallo, Iserloth III. Approval of Minutes On motion by Commissioner DeForest, second by Commissioner Friese, to approve the Minutes of the Regular Meeting held June 2, 2011. AYES: Commissioners DeForest, Friese, Schmidt, and Voll NOES: None ABSENT: Commissioners Aquallo, Iserloth ABSTAIN: Commissioner Johnson IV. New Business A. Introduction of New Arts Commissioner. Joann Johnson (Tina Schmidt, Chair) Tina Schmidt, Chair, introduced new Arts Commissioner Joann Johnson, appointed by Council on July 12, 2011. B. Presentation about "Halloween on Elm" with request for Arts Commission participation (Courtney Enriquez, Management Analyst, Housing and Neighborhood Services) Courtney Enriquez, Management Analyst, Housing and Neighborhood Services, gave a PowerPoint presentation to the Commission regarding the Halloween on Elm event to be held October 29, 2011, which is a program designed to help strengthen community relationships and the Village's identity. Tonya Rodzach, Community Arts Coordinator, distributed color photographs of the hands-on art projects she has developed for the event. Commissioners Aquallo, Friese, and Johnson volunteered to be judges for the Costume Contest at this year's event. C. Presentation related to Naming Rights Policy to be presented to City Council (Mick Calarco, Recreation Services Manager, Parks and Recreation) Mick Calarco, Recreation Services Manager, distributed a draft of Council Policy No. 48, Naming Rights of Parks and Designated Municipal Facilities, to the Commission. Mr. Calarco gave an informational overview of the history of the city's naming of facilities and parks and explained that after presenting the draft to various city commissions, the policy would be taken to City Council for review and a decision. D. Report on 201 1 TGIF Jazz season (Colleen Finnegan, Community Arts Coordinator) Colleen Finnegan, Community Arts Coordinator, reported on the recently concluded 201 1 TGIF Jazz in the Parks summer concert series. V. Public Comment There was no public comment. VI. Commission Reports A. Commissioners reported on their recent activities. B. Mr. Gordon reported on that the upcoming exhibition at the Cannon Art Gallery, "The World on a String: Puppets from the Alan Cook Collection," would open October 2, 201 1 . He also reported the submission deadline for the applications for the 201 2 Community Arts Grants is October 21, 2011 Mr. Gordon notified the Commission that he was proposing to have a Proclamation for Arts and Humanities Month presented at City Council sometime in October.
