Carlsbad Arts Commission
February 7, 2013

REGULAR MEETING
I. Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m.by Commissioner Schmidt, Chair.
II. Roll Call
Commissioners Present: Aquallo, DeForest, Friese, Johnson, Markovits, Schmidt, and Voll
Commissioners Absent: None
III. Approval of Minutes
Motion by Commissioner Aquallo, second by Commissioner Friese, to approve the minutes of the
regular meeting held January 3, 2013.
AYES: Commissioners Aquallo, Friese, Johnson, Markovits, Schmidt, and Voll
NOES: None
ABSTAIN: Commissioner DeForest
IV. New Business
Chair Schmidt led the Commissioners in an in-depth discussion about the arts in Carlsbad, as a
precursor to the development of a revised Arts Element to be included in the City's new General
Plan.
Library & Cultural Arts Director Pizzuto provided some additional information about the process
for updating the General Plan and offered to provide the Commissioners with the timeline for the
anticipated completion of that project.
V. Public Comment
There was no public comment.
VI. Commission Reports
A. Manager's Report - Peter Gordon
• Opera Previews began its 13*^ season on Saturday, January 26, 2013.
• This Is Jazz! begins its season on Saturday, February 9, 2013.
• On the consent calendar for City Council next week is a $15,000 donation from the
Carlsbad Friends of the Arts, monies which they gathered through ad sales in the
2012 TGIF souvenir program.
• On that same agenda is the acceptance of a $10,000 donation from Teresa Cannon
for support of the Three-Part-Art gallery education program.
• Item update: "The Fork," which had been offered to the city as a donation but rejected
by the Arts Commission, found a home at the central administration offices of Meals
on Wheels.

Commissioner Schmidt adjourned the regular meeting of the Arts Commission at 10:36 a.m.
