APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
By proper motion, the Arts Commission approved the minutes of the Nov. 1, 2018 Arts Commission
meeting (5-0-0-2 with Jadhav & White absent).
PUBLIC COMMENT
None
DISCUSSION OF FALL ARTS COMMISSION RETREAT
Commissioners discussed additional details relating to an upcoming Arts Commission retreat which
will be facilitated by Trudy Sopp, retained through the Center for Organizational Effectiveness. The
meeting is scheduled for Jan. 10, 2019, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at a location to be determined and will be
posted.
PRESENTATION: COMMUNITY ARTS GRANTS FUNDING PLAN
The Commissioners received the Community Arts Grants Proposed Funding Plan. After discussion,
the plan to fund 27 organizations with $77,000 in grants was approved. (5-0-0-2 with Jadhav and
White absent).
CHAIR REPORT
Chair Barker asked the commissioners to review documents related to the role of the Arts
Commission including the new Arts & Culture Master Plan in preparation for the upcoming retreat
and think through the role as the commission prepares for the upcoming work plan.
CULTURAL ARTS OFFICE REPORT
The Parks & Recreation Department is completing the agreement for the contractor who will
complete the Pine Ave. Park artwork.
The artist for Aviara Park will be delivering his two sculptures to be installed in January.
Manager Schultz told the commissioners of special opportunity grants for 2018.
The Juried Exhibition show opened with over 600 people at the reception. Questions related to the
show were answered.
COMMISSION COMMENTS
Commissioners appreciated the opening of the gallery, Front Row Fridays and other cultural events of
the city.
One commissioner would like to get more information about patrons' reactions to the events rather
than just attendance statistics and expressed concerns about special opportunities grants.
A commissioner expressed a desire to have more input about what will be included in the retreat.
Commissioners were directed to speak with the facilitator.
ADJOURNMENT
Chair Barker adjourned the meeting at 10:23 a.m.
