BEACH & TREE COMMISSION August 2.5 r 1953 The Carlsbad City Parks, Tree & Beach Commission met in the City Hall August 25, 1953, at ?:30 P. H., with the following present: Howard Oldhain, Chairman, Mrs. Chas. Felt, Ben Acuna, Dr. Walter Glines, and Mrs. Wayne Stuart. First order of business was the completion of plans for the Commun- ity Beach Clean-up set for 9 A. M. August 29th. It was decided to meet on'the beach between Elm and Grand, and Mr. Oldham would give the in- structions and the participants would be taken by car to further points and work back for refreshments, these to be furnished and dispensed by the Spanish-American Club. The Rotary Club and the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce gave i#15.00 and $11.15 respectively toward the purchase of food and promised their co-operation, as did the Boy and Girl Scouts and children and adults of the community. Mr. Standish was present, repr e- senting the Volunteer Fire Department, who have agreed to take charge of the burning of mbbish as it is collected. Also, Mr. Arnie Stringer sent word that he would use his horses to haul sacks of cans, etc., to the truck s. Police Chief Palkowski was present and stated he would have several men on hand for the protection of the children. He stressed the safety angle s. Report by Mr. Acuna re the tables for the Archery grounds - these will be returned, and so reported to Mr. Strause. Communications from Mr. Barter, City Traffic Engineer, recommend- ing the trees be cut back to the property line on Ocean Avenue between Grand and Cedar. Also a letter from C. D. McClellan requesting permis- sion to trim cypress hedge and remove dead tree on the south side of Grand Avenue west of 101. Both these matters were referred to the Tree section of the Commission, who, with Mr. Oldham, will meet Monday A. M. and check the situation and report to the City Council on September 1st. Forms for Tree Removal application were approved and ordered mimeo- graphed. A letter was read from the State Highway Department re transfer of right-of-way. No further business - meeting adjourned.
